Beginning couples therapy can feel like a significant decision, and it’s natural to have questions. These FAQs are here to give you clarity and peace of mind about how the process works.

Frequently asked questions

  • Your 20-minute consultation is a supportive conversation to see if working together feels like the right fit. You’ll share a little about what’s bringing you here, I’ll explain how I work with couples, and we’ll go over practical details like sessions and fees. It’s not a therapy session, but a chance to get clarity on your challenges and goals and next steps without pressure.

  • During our free 20-minute consultation, we’ll discuss your current challenges, goals, and needs. I’ll help you identify whether Rebuild Trust, Stop the Cycle, or Grow Together is the best fit. In some cases, we’ll use a hybrid approach when needs overlap. The goal is to ensure you feel supported and clear on your next step.

  • It depends on what is the right fit for the couple of course, however, I’ve found that distressed couples make the most progress when they have a clear structure to follow. That’s why I offer programs in addition to open-ended sessions.

    Programs provide:

    • step-by-step roadmap so you always know where we’re headed.

    • Built-in momentum and accountability, which are especially important in times of crisis.

    • A balance of structure and flexibility: while there’s a clear framework, we adapt it to your specific needs.

When the relationship is relatively strong, but has a few chronic areas of difficulty, open-ended therapy can be a great place to build connection and relationship skills that have a big positive impact on the relationship.

On the other hand, open-ended therapy has the potential to be a poor fit for couples that are contending with betrayal, high conflict, emotional volatility, and deep emotional distance. In those cases open-ended explorative couples therapy can sometimes feel aimless or leave couples wondering if they’re really moving forward. Programs create a shared sense of direction and help you see progress more quickly.

  • I integrate Gottman Method Couples Therapy (Level 3 Practicum Training completed)Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT)Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), and trauma-informed practices. This allows me to combine structure, emotional depth, and practical tools tailored to each couple’s needs.

  • Weekly sessions are $225 (55 min) or $300 (90 min).

    Programs range from $2,200–$2,800.

    Here’s a clear breakdown:

    • Rebuild Trust (Affair Recovery Intensive): $2,800 for 10 × 90-minute sessions

    • Stop the Cycle (High-Conflict Reset): $2,200 for 8 × 90-minute sessions

    • Grow Together (Weekly/Bi-Weekly): $225 (55 min) · $300 (90 min)

Couples that fit the Grow Together pathway and are not in need of the Affair Recovery or High-Conflict Reset programs, often choose 4 weekly sessions in a row for momentum, followed by flexibly moving to bi-weekly and eventually less frequent as needed as they reach their goals.

    Flexible payment options are available.

  • You’re never locked in. If you decide to stop before finishing a program, you’ll only pay for the sessions you’ve completed. Any unused prepaid sessions will be refunded, so you can feel comfortable committing without pressure.

  • Most couples benefit from a structured program, especially when facing betrayal or high conflict. Programs provide a clear roadmap, tools, and accountability. For couples not in relationship crisis, I also offer a Grow Together weekly or bi-weekly track—a flexible option for steady support and growth without the design of a program.

  • I don’t bill insurance directly, and most insurance plans unfortunately don’t cover couples therapy. However, I can provide a monthly superbill (an itemized receipt) that you may submit to your insurance company for possible out-of-network reimbursement.

It’s always a good idea to check with your insurance provider and ask:

    • Does my plan cover out-of-network therapy?

    • If so, at what percentage?

    • Do they cover couples therapy specifically, or only individual therapy?

Even if therapy isn’t reimbursable, many couples find the investment worthwhile for the clarity, stability, and momentum it creates in their relationship.

  • Yes—all sessions are conducted securely online. This means:

    • Partners can join from different locations if needed

    • Privacy (no waiting rooms)

    • No travel stress when emotions are already high

Research shows that online couples therapy is as effective as in-person therapy, and many couples find it more practical, especially when managing full schedules and relationship challenges.

  • Yes. Once a program is complete, many couples choose to schedule weekly, monthly, or quarterly maintenance sessions. These are lighter-touch check-ins that help keep your relationship on track and reinforce the progress you’ve made. You’ll always have the option to return for additional support when needed.
